ALGIERS, Feb 14 (AE&B)-- Algiers international airport will be able to deal with 16 million passengers per year in 2018 thanks to the new air terminal with a capacity of 10 million passengers per year, International airport’s CEO Tahar Allache announced on Thursday. Allache said on the national radio that detailed studies on the new project are completed and the bids opening operation to choose the company to carry out the project will take place in next March. Put into operation in 2006, the current airport’s air terminal can deal with only 6 million passengers per year.                                                       “As the new air terminal is a large-scale project, only foreign companies have been preselected while Algerian ones will be greatly associated to the construction of this new infrastructure,” Allache stressed. Besides, the new control tower project is being carried out so as to provide the airport with maximum security in terms of air navigation."Safety and operational quality are the priorities on which we work every day," he said, adding that drastic measures are taken by the institution to spread animal and bird hazards (intrusion of birds in aircraft engines). Algiers airport has got the best facilities in terms of aviation safety, Allache stressed.
